عمو نوروز و حاجي فيروز اصلا فرعي نيستند، خيلي هم اصلي اند. داستان عمو نوروز، داستاني عاشقانه است. عمو نوروز منتظر زني است. آنها مي خواهند با هم ازدواج كنند. اين داستان مي تواند به آن ازدواج مقدس الهه و شاه مربوط باشد. در واقع آن زن بي نام(سال) عاشق عمو نوروز است و آن الهه هم عاشق شاه است.
عمو نوروز نماد كسي است كه بركت مي دهد، حالا شاه يا هر كس ديگر و آن زن هم منتظر عمو نوروز است.
معمولا زن هميشه با زمين هم هويت است، جز در بعضي از اساطير مصري كه زمينش مذكر است، معمولا زن و زمين يكي هستند.
الهه كه عاشق شاه است، او را انتخاب مي كند و آن زن عاشق (سال) هم عمو نوروز را برمي گزيند
ديدار زن و عمو نوروز اتفاق نمي افتد. زن هيچوقت در زمان عمو نوروز بيدار نيست، آن قدر خانه را روفته و روبيده و كار كرده كه خوابش برده. زن صاحب خانه است و مرد مسافر، و اين سفر هميشه ادامه دارد. اما داستان حاجي فيروز بسيار جدي تر و مهم تر است. مرحوم مهرداد بهار حدس زده بود كه سياهي صورت حاجي فيروز بايد مربوط به بازگشت او از دنياي مردگان باشد. ظاهرا داستان از اين قرار است كه “ايشتر” كه همان الهه تموز است شاه –دوموزي- را برمي گزيند. يك روز الهه به زيرزمين مي رود و با ورود الهه به زيرزمين، در روي زمين باروري متوقف ميشود. نه ديگر درختي سبز مي شود و نه ديگر گياهي هست. خدايان كه از ايستايي جهان ناراحت بودند، براي پيدا كردن راه حل جلسه ميكنند و قرار ميشود كه نيمي از سال را «دوموزي» به زير زمين برود و نيم ديگر سال را خواهـر دوموزي كه «گشتي ننه» نام دارد، به جاي برادر به زيرزمين برود. وقتي دوموزي به روي زمين مي آيد، بهار ميشود و تمام مراسم نوروز هم ظاهرا و احتمالا به دليل آمدن اوست. وقتي دوموزي را به زيرزمين ميفرستند، لباس قرمز تنش ميكنند و دايره، دنبك، ساز و ني لبك دستش مي دهند و اين يعني خود حاجي فيروز. صورت سياهش هم مربوط به بازگشت از دنياي مردگان است و اين شادماني ها براي بازگشت دوموزي از زيرزمين است.
همه می دانيم حاجی فيروز طلايه دار عيد نوروز است، اما اکثر ما از داستان شکل گيری اين اسطوره بی خبريم.
دکتر کتايون مزداپور استاد زبان های باستانی و اسطوره شناس گفته است زنده ياد دکتر مهرداد بهار سالها پيش حدس زده بود سياهی صورت حاجی فيروز به دليل بازگشت او از سرزمين مردگان است و اخيرا خانم شيداجليلوند که روی لوح اکدی فرود ايشتر به زمين کار می کرد، به نکته تازه ای پی برد که حدس دکتر بهار و ارتباط داستان بنيادين ازدواج مقدس با نوروز و حاجی فيروز را تاييد می کند.
دکتر مزداپور می گويد:" نوروز جشنی مربوط به پيش از آمدن آريايی ها به اين سرزمين است لااقل از دو سه هزار قبل اين جشن در ايران برگزار می شده و به احتمال زياد با آيين ازدواج مقدس مرتبط است. تصور می شده که الهه بزرگ، يعنی الهه مادر، شاه را برای شاهی انتخاب و با او ازدواج می کند."
دکتر صنعتی زاده اين الهه را "ننه" يا "ننه خاتون" نام داده، معادل سومری آن "نانای" و معادل بابلی و ايرانی آن "ايشتر" و " آناهيتا" است. تا آنجا که می دانيم اين الهه خدای جنگ، آفرينندگی و باروری است.
دکتر مزداپور داستان اين ازدواج نمادين و اسطوره ای را که بنيادی ترين نماد نوروز است چنين شرح داد:" اينانا يا ايشتر که در بين النهرين است عاشق 'دوموزی' يا 'تموز' می شود( نام دوموزی در کتاب مقدس تموز است) و او را برای ازدواج انتخاب می کند."
تموز يا دوموزی در اين داستان نماد شاه است. الهه يک روز هوس می کند که به زيرزمين برود. علت اين تصميم را نمی دانيم. شايد خودش الهه زيرزمين هم هست. خواهـری دارد که شايد خود او باشد که در زيرزمين زندگی می کند.
اينانا تمام زيورآلاتش را به همراه می برد. او بايد از هفت دروازه رد شود تا به زيرزمين برسد. خواهـری که فرمانروای زيرزمين است، بسيار حسود است و به نگهبان ها دستور می دهد در در هر دروازه مقداری از جواهرات الهه را بگيرند.
در آخرين طبقه نگهبان ها حتی گوشت تن الهه را هم می گيرند و فقط استخوان هايش باقی می ماند. از آن طرف روی تمام زمين باروری متوقف می شود. نه درختی سبز می شود، نه گياهی هست و نه زندگی. و هيچکس نيست که برای معبد خدايان فديه بدهد و آنها که به تنگ آمده اند جلسه می کنند و وزير الهه را برای چاره جويی دعوت می کنند.
الهه که پيش از سفر از اتفاق های ناگوار آن اطلاع داشته، قبلا به او وصيت کرده بود که چه بايد بکند.
به پيشنهاد وزير خدايان موافقت می کنند يک نفر به جای الهه به زيرزمين برود تا او بتواند به زمين بازگردد و باروری دوباره آغاز شود. در روی زمين فقط يک نفر برای نبود الهه عزاداری نمی کرد و از نبود او رنج نمی کشيد؛ و او دوموزی شوهر الهه بود. به همين دليل خدايان مقرر می کنند. نيمی از سال را او و نيمه ديگر را خواهـرش که "گشتی نه نه" نام دارد، به زيرزمين بروند تا الهه به روی زمين بازگردد.
دوموزی را با لباس قرمز در حالی که دايره، دنبک، ساز و نی لبک دستش می دهند، به زيرزمين می فرستند. شادمانی های نوروز و حاجی فيروز برای بازگشت دوموزی از زيرزمين و آغاز دوباره باروری در روی زمين است.
